A little bit about this story: It is the first story I completed, and was inspired by a conversation I had with a WW II vet back in 2013. He was one of the survivors of the event told here, and while I have supplied a little dialog and such, the premise, some main events, and the moving ending all come from what he shared with me.
A brief word of caution: This is about the horrific atrocities of war, and it was told to me by someone who lived it. Its age recommendation is 14+ because of this.
